Represented by her Special Assistant on Social Development Secretariat, Helen Zamani, Mahmoud highlighted the evolving role of filmmaking as more than just entertainment, describing it as a reflection of shared experiences, struggles, and aspirations.

“The Zuma Film Festival is not merely an event but a movement—a platform for voices, ideas, and visions shaping our identity and future,” she stated. “Film is a powerful medium that connects diverse cultures and tells stories defining who we are.”

Mahmoud urged the film industry to leverage emerging technologies such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence to transform audience engagement while preserving the authenticity of African stories.

“In a rapidly evolving technological landscape, adapting to innovations is essential for keeping stories relevant and impactful,” she added.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by the entertainment industry, Mahmoud praised the organizers of the Zuma Film Festival for their efforts in promoting the future of African cinema.

Ali Nuhu, Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation, commended the festival’s role in celebrating African creativity and innovation. He noted that the theme of this year’s festival, “Digital Renaissance: Embracing the Future!”, underscores the transformative influence of digital technology in revolutionizing filmmaking and storytelling across the continent.
