In separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos, the traders lamented the unpredictability of food prices, which has affected their trading activities.
Mr. John Nwabueze, a food trader at Agege Market, expressed concern over the fluctuating prices, stating that it has become challenging to predict market trends and make informed decisions.
Nwabueze highlighted the rising prices of essential food items such as rice, beans, and garri, noting significant increases compared to previous weeks.
Similarly, Mrs. Judith Amen, a foodstuff trader at Mile 12 Market, echoed Nwabueze’s sentiments, describing the current situation as uncertain and worrisome. She noted that the fluctuating prices have made traders cautious, affecting their ability to stock goods.
Amen cited examples of the recent price hikes in rice, beans, groundnut oil, tomatoes, and potatoes, emphasizing the unpredictability of market conditions.
Another trader, Mrs. Modinat Yusuf from Oja Oba market in Alimosho, highlighted the scarcity of basic food items and the continuous rise in prices, urging caution in purchasing and selling goods due to market uncertainties.
The traders called for urgent measures to address the inflationary pressures affecting food prices, expressing hope for stability in the market in the near future.
