Former Governor Gbenga Daniel Credits-Past Administration, Ogun’s Oil Exploration-Status
Former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, has attributed the current status of Ogun State as a frontier state for oil exploration to initiatives laid down during his administration.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) recently declared Ogun State as a frontier state for oil exploration, a development that Daniel hailed in a statement on Sunday. He congratulated Governor Dapo Abiodun on this achievement, emphasizing that it marks the fruition of efforts initiated during his tenure.
Daniel recalled the establishment of the Gateway Oil and Gas Development Limited in 2003 under his administration, which laid the groundwork for the state’s foray into oil exploration. He highlighted the comprehensive efforts made during his tenure, including a three-dimensional seismic study of oil and mineral deposits across various locations in the state.
The former governor pointed out that these initiatives attracted significant investments, such as the $50 million pledge from PGS Exploration Nigeria Limited in 2004. Additionally, discoveries like a large deposit of Phosphate in Ifo Local Government Area led to the establishment of the Gateway Fertilizer Company at Olusosun.
Furthermore, Daniel underscored the strategic projects conceived during his administration, such as the Ogun State Agro-Cargo Airport in Iperu/Ilishan and the Kajola Free Trade Zone in Ifo, designed to support industrial and economic growth.
Expressing gratitude to Governor Abiodun for continuing the vision, Daniel urged him to revisit the Gateway Industrial & Petro-Gas Institute (GIPI) established in 2006 to leverage the underutilized developments. He also appealed to the governor to prioritize the construction of the Makun Omi Bridge via Efire, a project initiated during his tenure.
Daniel’s remarks underscore the continuity and progress in Ogun State’s development trajectory, highlighting the importance of sustained efforts and strategic planning in fostering economic growth and diversification.
