Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Reportedly Dead After Alleged US-Israel Strike
Former Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has reportedly been killed in a joint Israeli–United States airstrike, according to Ireporter Online. The development was disclosed in a report attributed to Iran’s semi-official Iranian Labor News Agency on Sunday.
According to the report, the airstrike targeted Ahmadinejad’s residence in the Narmak district of northeast Tehran, resulting in his death alongside several members of his security detail. International media outlets indicated that the strike was believed to have occurred late Saturday, although independent confirmation had not been secured as of the time this report was filed.
The incident comes against the backdrop of intensifying hostilities involving Iran, the United States and Israel, following a series of coordinated strikes on strategic Iranian targets. Observers note that the reported assassination could mark a significant escalation in the already volatile standoff between the parties.
Ahmadinejad served as Iran’s president from 2005 to 2013, a tenure defined by strained relations with Western powers over Tehran’s nuclear programme. Prior to his presidency, he held several prominent roles, including governor of Ardabil Province and mayor of Tehran.
Following the completion of his two terms, he was appointed by then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to the Expediency Discernment Council, a 48-member advisory body responsible for advising the Office of the Supreme Leader and mediating disputes within Iran’s governing structure.
His reported death adds to a growing list of high-profile Iranian figures allegedly killed amid the ongoing conflict, further heightening uncertainty over the country’s political trajectory.
