The explosion occurred as the tanker, carrying 10,000 liters of diesel, was in the process of offloading fuel at a network mast.

According to Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the emergency response team was alerted at 12:38 p.m. via the agency’s toll-free line. Swiftly activating its emergency protocols, LASEMA dispatched teams from its Igando base to the disaster site.

Upon arrival, the responders were met with an inferno that had already consumed the tanker and was rapidly spreading to nearby structures. This included nine offices within the Okokomaiko Police Station, three bungalows, and several containerized shops.
