Ganduje Appointed Chairman of FAAN Board After Stepping Down as APC National Chair

Barely two weeks after resigning from his position as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has received a fresh appointment from the Federal Government.

Ganduje has been named the Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). The announcement was made public on Wednesday during the official inauguration of the new FAAN board members in Abuja.

Ganduje stepped down from his APC leadership role citing health-related reasons. His resignation, however, came amid rising political speculation that President Bola Tinubu is maneuvering to bring Ganduje’s longtime political rival, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, into the APC fold ahead of the 2027 elections.

In response to these speculations, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) chieftain, Buba Galadima, has strongly denied reports that Kwankwaso is planning to defect to the APC. Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Galadima affirmed that the former Kano governor remains firmly committed to the NNPP and is not contemplating a move to the ruling party.

He also rejected claims suggesting that Ganduje’s removal was orchestrated to pave the way for Kwankwaso’s entry, insisting that Kwankwaso’s political influence continues to attract overtures from rival parties.

As Ganduje resumes his new role at FAAN, political observers are closely watching the implications for power dynamics within the APC and the broader coalition strategies being formed ahead of the 2027 general elections.
