Governor Uzodimma Wields the Axe—Attorney General Akaolisa Shown the Exit Door

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has relieved the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Cyprian Akaolisa, of his duties with immediate effect.

The announcement was made on Monday afternoon by Declan Emelumba, the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy. The official statement did not provide a reason for the dismissal, only stating that the governor had approved the termination of Akaolisa’s appointment.

Akaolisa was instructed to hand over all government assets in his possession to the State Solicitor General and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice without delay.

According to the statement:

“The Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, has approved the immediate removal of the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr C.O.C Akaolisa.
The former commissioner is hereby directed to hand over all government property under his custody to the State Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, with immediate effect.”

Akaolisa, a known close associate of Governor Uzodimma, previously served as his placeholder for Deputy Governor in 2019. His sudden dismissal marks an unexpected shift in the state’s political landscape.
