Speaking during the unveiling of the 2025 Macroeconomic Outlook on Thursday, NESG’s Chief Economist and Director of Research & Development, Dr. Olusegun Omisakin, expressed confidence in Nigeria’s economic potential.

“With optimal efforts and efficient policy reforms, Nigeria’s GDP can achieve a 5.5% growth rate, and we are optimistic that this is achievable,” Omisakin stated.

Meanwhile, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin has urged the government to ensure that economic growth aligns with the realities faced by Nigerians.

During a December 2024 plenary session, Jibrin emphasized the need for practical implementation of the GDP growth targets outlined in the 2024-2026 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP).

“The GDP growth rate is projected to reach 5.5% by 2026, driven by investments in infrastructure, agriculture, and telecommunications,” Jibrin noted. “It’s essential to ensure these projections translate into tangible benefits for Nigerians.”
