Guardiola opted not to start the 32-year-old Belgian midfielder, who had been sidelined with a hamstring injury since the beginning of the 2023-2024 season. De Bruyne entered the pitch in the 57th minute of the FA Cup clash at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, January 7.

As De Bruyne made his way onto the field, the Manchester City fans in the stadium rose to their feet, giving a warm welcome to the Premier League assists maestro. The applause began when he stood up from the bench to warm up in the second half, and the excitement in the stadium surpassed the cheers for City’s first two goals in the opening half.

Pep Guardiola expressed his admiration for De Bruyne, stating, “Kevin must know how much the people love him. He’s incredible. Kevin, until he decides to leave or retires, will forever be one of the most beloved players. We are really pleased for him.”
