The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has raised the alarm over an attempted compromise of its official X account by suspected hackers.

According to Ireporter Online, the DHQ confirmed the development in a statement issued on Saturday, August 15, by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba.

Uba disclosed that the incident was being handled as a cybersecurity matter, with technical measures activated to protect the account and prevent further unauthorised access.

He urged members of the public, media organisations and other stakeholders to disregard any suspicious or misleading content that may be published through the account while efforts are being made to regain full control.

The military authorities also reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining strong information-security standards and providing the public with accurate, timely and credible information concerning the activities and operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The DHQ appealed to Nigerians to remain vigilant and rely on its verified accounts on other social media platforms for official updates while the issue is being resolved.

Members of the public were specifically directed to the Defence Headquarters Nigeria account on Facebook, the official Instagram handle @defenceheadquarters and the Defence Headquarters Nigeria WhatsApp Channel for verified information.
