Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, describing the outcome of the election as a significant victory for democracy.

According to Ireporter Online, Obi issued the congratulatory message in a statement on Sunday, while also commending the people of Osun State, particularly the youths, for their participation in the electoral process.

The former Anambra State governor said Adeleke’s victory demonstrated that voters had renewed their confidence in his administration and record in office.

Obi said the people of Osun had exercised their constitutional right by choosing their preferred leader through the ballot, describing their decision as courageous and decisive.

He also praised young people across the state for participating peacefully in the election and remaining vigilant in protecting their votes.

According to Obi, the conduct of the electorate showed that citizens can strengthen democracy when they actively participate in elections and safeguard their mandates through lawful means.

The NDC presidential candidate stressed that every legitimate vote must be respected and that electoral mandates should only be determined through established democratic and legal processes.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general election, Obi urged Nigerians to become more politically informed, participate actively in elections and protect their votes.

He described the Osun outcome as an important reminder of the power of citizens to influence the direction of the country through the ballot box.

Obi noted that Nigerians facing challenges such as insecurity, economic hardship, hunger and deprivation possess the power to demand change by exercising their voting rights.

He also appealed to politicians to place national interest, peace and respect for the rule of law above partisan interests.

The former governor maintained that elections should be based on ideas, competence, character and service rather than violence or confrontation.
