Henry’s resignation was confirmed through a letter dated April 24, signed by his office in Los Angeles and submitted on the same day a council responsible for selecting a new prime minister and cabinet was scheduled to be sworn in.

The interim council, comprising nine members with seven possessing voting powers, aims to address Haiti’s political and security crises. Its responsibilities include appointing a new cabinet, establishing a provisional electoral commission, and forming a national security council, crucial steps for stabilizing the country and organizing future elections.

Haiti has been grappling with security challenges since February, marked by coordinated attacks in the capital, Port-au-Prince, and surrounding areas. The attacks involved burning police stations and hospitals, gunfire at the main international airport, and the release of over 4,000 inmates from the nation’s largest prisons.

The resignation of Prime Minister Henry signifies a significant step in Haiti’s political transition process, as the country seeks to address its complex array of challenges and pave the way for stability and progress.
