“He had been sick for some time, but we managed it. At a point, he stopped eating and could only take liquids. He passed away peacefully in his sleep,” the source disclosed.
Chief Adebanjo was a relentless advocate for true federalism, resource control, and restructuring. He actively pushed for the implementation of the 2014 National Confab recommendations and championed the South-East’s quest for the presidency after Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure in 2023.
President Bola Tinubu, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Muhammadu Buhari, and Goodluck Jonathan, alongside Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), and Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), have all expressed their condolences.
The Afenifere, The Patriots, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, Iba Gani Adams, Chief Akin Osuntokun, and the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) have also mourned Adebanjo’s passing, remembering him as a fearless advocate for democracy and justice.
