In a statement from his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu explained that while the reforms have been tough, they are already producing positive outcomes. He noted that the removal of the fuel subsidy had sparked increased competition in the petroleum sector, boosted agricultural yields, and contributed to a decline in commodity prices, indicating a gradual recovery of the economy.
“We had no choice but to make this decision to prevent our country from going bankrupt,” Tinubu said, acknowledging the hardship but also highlighting the signs of hope. He pointed to growing foreign investment and a stable fuel supply as indicators of progress.
Addressing national security issues, Tinubu emphasized that insecurity affects all Nigerians, regardless of their religion or ethnicity. He reaffirmed his commitment to national unity and assured that security forces are making significant strides in tackling these challenges.
The President also expressed his appreciation for the continued prayers and support from religious leaders, noting that optimism is returning to the country. He emphasized that Nigeria’s economic prospects are improving, with signs of economic growth and revitalization in agriculture.
“We are seeing a better future and renewed hope,” Tinubu concluded.
