Speaking at a policy workshop in Gombe on Friday, themed “Empowerment of Women in Pastoralism and Agriculture in Nigeria’s Sahel Region,” Dudu emphasized that female farmers are increasingly unable to engage in agricultural activities due to security risks.

The event was organized with support from Cowater International, the International Development Research Centre, and the Supporting Pastoralism and Agriculture in Recurrent and Protracted Crises initiative, which is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office.

Dudu stressed the need for improved security measures to enable women to access their farms safely. “Women require security, especially when traveling to their farms. Many are unable to do so without protection, putting food production at risk,” he stated.

He called for a strategic enhancement of the region’s security framework to safeguard agricultural activities and ensure food sufficiency.
