I Have Nothing To Fear” – Senator Buba Submits Self To DSS Over Banditry Allegations

Bauchi State governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Senator Shehu Buba, has voluntarily submitted himself to investigations by security agencies following allegations linking him to banditry, kidnapping, terrorism financing and other criminal activities.

According to Ireporter Online, the senator made the disclosure during a press conference in Bauchi on Monday, September 14, where he called on the Department of State Services (DSS), Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) and Nigeria Police Force to independently investigate the allegations and establish the truth.

Shehu Buba said the allegations were not new, recalling that similar accusations were made against him in 2014 and were subsequently investigated and dismissed.

He said the recent claims, which have resurfaced in different forms, had become serious enough to warrant direct investigation by the relevant security agencies rather than allowing the matter to remain a subject of social media speculation.

“I have nothing to hide, and I have nothing to fear from any legitimate investigation,” the senator said.

Buba disclosed that his legal team, led by former Nigerian Bar Association President, Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, SAN, had formally written to the DSS, DIA and police requesting a comprehensive investigation into the allegations.

He challenged anyone with credible evidence linking him to banditry, terrorism, kidnapping or the financing of criminal groups to submit such evidence to the appropriate authorities.

“Do not hide behind social media. Do not rely on edited videos, insinuations, propaganda or anonymous allegations,” he said.

The senator said he had previously taken legal steps over allegations he described as false, adding that some individuals allegedly involved in spreading the claims were currently facing proceedings before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

He also referred to a petition he submitted to the Nigeria Police Force in September 2025 and another dated September 7, 2026, in which he sought Interpol’s intervention regarding one of the individuals his legal team believes may be behind some of the allegations.

According to Buba, copies of his submissions were also forwarded to the National Security Adviser, Chief of Defence Intelligence, Chief of Defence Staff and Minister of Defence.

The senator, who previously chaired the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, said his interactions with security and intelligence agencies in the course of his public responsibilities may have been misrepresented as evidence of links to criminal elements.

He maintained that he was prepared to face prosecution if investigators found credible evidence establishing a prima facie case against him.

Buba, who is seeking to contest the 2027 Bauchi governorship election on the PRP platform, also alleged that the accusations were being used to damage his political reputation.

He urged his supporters to remain calm and avoid insulting, threatening or attacking anyone in response to the allegations.

“If there is evidence against me, let it be produced. If there is none, those who have deliberately manufactured and circulated these allegations should equally be held accountable under the law,” he said.

“My conscience is clear. I have nothing to hide. I have voluntarily submitted myself for investigation because the truth should not be afraid of scrutiny,” the senator added.
