The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that the defection of former PDP Vice Presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has validated his political position during the 2023 general elections.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, on Wednesday night in Abuja, Wike described Okowa’s open endorsement of President Bola Tinubu as a confirmation of the foresight behind his refusal to support Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate in 2023.

Wike urged Nigerians still undecided to rally behind the President, noting:

“This is yet another endorsement of the President’s commitment to good governance and national development. It also vindicates the decision I made in 2023, which was based on the greater interest of a united Nigeria.”

He went on to applaud Okowa and Oborevwori for their “heart-warming” decision, attributing it to the visible strides made by Tinubu’s administration.

“I commend Dr. Okowa and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. Their decision reflects confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership and vision for a united Nigeria. This is what I’ve consistently urged others to do—take a stand when it matters, not just when personal issues arise.”

“They’ve chosen the right moment to declare support for the President, ensuring the Niger Delta region can benefit more from the government’s policies. I’m especially pleased that what I saw before the 2023 elections is now becoming evident to others who are joining the Renewed Hope agenda.”
