Bayern Legend Thomas Müller to Get Testimonial Match After Exit

Thomas Müller, the legendary forward of Bayern Munich, has announced that he will be departing the club at the end of the current season after an illustrious 25-year journey. The 35-year-old confirmed via social media on Saturday that the club has opted not to extend his contract, which expires this summer—a decision he said was not in line with his personal wishes.

Despite expressing dissatisfaction with how negotiations had played out in public, Müller conveyed gratitude for the immense support he received from the club and its fans, emphasizing that his bond with Bayern remains strong and enduring.

Having joined Bayern at age 10 and rising through the youth ranks, Müller has enjoyed a decorated career that includes two UEFA Champions League trophies and twelve Bundesliga titles. His current focus remains on helping Bayern reclaim the Bundesliga crown and reach the Champions League final, which will be held at their home ground, the Allianz Arena.

In response to his announcement, Bayern Munich issued a statement confirming that Müller will be honored with a testimonial match and will also feature in the Club World Cup scheduled for July.

Describing Müller’s career as the epitome of a “Bavarian fairytale,” Bayern President Herbert Hainer highlighted the midfielder’s journey from Weilheim, a nearby town, to becoming the club’s most-capped player with 743 appearances. Over the years, Müller has tallied 247 goals and 273 assists across all competitions.

Although he has faced reduced playing time recently, speculation is growing about a potential move to Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States, as Müller has yet to reveal his next destination.
