Osun Election: Aregbesola’s Polling Unit Records Massive Turnout Despite Thug Attack
The polling unit of former Osun State Governor and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, recorded a significant voter turnout on Saturday despite an earlier disruption linked to suspected thugs.
According to Ireporter Online, Ifofin Unit 001, Ward 8, in Ilesa East Local Government Area, witnessed a steady flow of voters as residents turned out to participate in the ongoing Osun State governorship election.
A voter identified as Adeniyi Taye praised residents for their participation, noting that the large number of people at the polling area reflected the strong interest in the election.
Three polling booths were reportedly situated close to one another in the area, with voting already underway at two of them. Activities at Ward 8, Unit 10, however, were said to have experienced an initial delay.
The Presiding Officer, Elizabeth Adaramaja, disclosed that the INEC ad hoc personnel initially lacked chairs and tables needed for the voting exercise.
However, an ADC party agent, Samson Grace, said the issue had been resolved and voting had commenced after the temporary delay.
The development followed an earlier reported disruption at Aregbesola’s polling unit after suspected thugs allegedly invaded the area, causing some voters to leave amid heightened tension.
Despite the earlier incident, voters later returned to the area, with electoral activities continuing under security arrangements.
