Osun Election: Panic As Voters, INEC Officials Flee Amid Ejigbo Violence
Voting was temporarily disrupted in Ejigbo, Osun State, after violence reportedly erupted at a polling unit during the ongoing governorship election.
According to Ireporter Online, the incident triggered panic among voters, residents and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), forcing many of them to flee the area as tension mounted.
Witnesses reportedly saw people running in different directions in an attempt to escape the disturbance, while motorcycles and vehicles moved through the area as residents sought safety.
The immediate cause of the violence was not immediately established, while details surrounding the incident remained unclear at the time of reporting. The development, however, temporarily brought voting activities at the affected location to a halt.
The incident occurred as voters across Osun State turned out to participate in the governorship election amid heightened security arrangements across the state.
Authorities are expected to maintain security and restore calm in affected areas to enable voters and electoral officials to carry out their duties without intimidation or disruption.
