According to Ireporter Online, a young married woman has recounted a strained encounter with her mother-in-law that has resulted in months of silence between both parties following a disagreement over household responsibilities during a brief visit.

The incident reportedly occurred during a four-day stay by the mother-in-law, who expressed displeasure after noticing that the house had not been swept. The wife explained that a cleaner who visits weekly was scheduled to come the following day, a response that allegedly did not sit well with her.

The woman narrated that her mother-in-law questioned her domestic role, asking what she did that prevented her from sweeping and suggesting that she was misusing her husband’s resources on a modest apartment.

Tension escalated until the husband intervened, firmly defending his wife and stating that he did not marry her to be burdened with chores, adding that employing a cleaner was entirely appropriate.

The situation, however, worsened when the mother-in-law reportedly picked up a broom and began sweeping before abruptly stopping and later leaving the home the following day. Since then, communication between her and the couple has broken down.

The woman added that while her husband has advised her to maintain distance from his mother, she is considering reaching out to apologize, as she remains uncertain about whether her actions were inappropriate.

The development highlights ongoing generational differences in perceptions of domestic roles within families.
