Why The Federal Government’s Project Tour Is Necessary, According To The Presidency

According to Ireporter Online, the Presidency has explained plans to embark on a nationwide tour of federal infrastructure and development projects, saying the initiative is aimed at showcasing achievements in key sectors such as transportation, healthcare, roads, and other critical national infrastructure.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the planned tour is designed to strengthen public awareness of the scale and impact of projects executed under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. He noted that despite widespread implementation of reforms and infrastructure delivery across the country, many citizens remain unaware of the full scope of ongoing and completed projects.

Onanuga stated that the initiative would provide journalists, stakeholders, and other participants direct access to project sites across the country to ensure accurate reporting and a clearer understanding of government interventions. He explained that firsthand observation would help bridge the information gap between implementation and public perception, adding that infrastructure development, particularly roads, continues to play a central role in supporting economic activities, including agriculture, trade, and transportation.

He further highlighted that recent fiscal reforms have increased allocations to state governments, enabling them to undertake more capital projects independently. According to him, this has expanded development efforts beyond federal initiatives to include significant state-level infrastructure delivery.

The presidential aide also expressed concern over increasing cases of vandalism targeting public infrastructure such as roads, rail assets, and utilities, stressing the need for greater civic responsibility and protection of national assets.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Special Duties and Director of Media for the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Tunde Rahman, said the engagement was necessary to correct misconceptions about government performance and improve access to verified information. He maintained that several infrastructure projects, including rail development and road construction across regions, are either ongoing or already completed, contrary to some public narratives.

Rahman added that the Renewed Hope Ambassadors initiative is focused on documenting and communicating measurable outcomes of federal programmes, while a newly launched digital platform will allow Nigerians to access verified information on government projects and reforms.

Similarly, the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of Information, Dr. Rabiu Ibrahim, called for stronger communication strategies to ensure that government projects are properly documented and visible at the grassroots level. He warned that poor communication could fuel misinformation and distort public perception of government efforts.

Officials across various sectors also emphasized that Nigerians are already beginning to feel the impact of ongoing reforms in infrastructure, transport, healthcare, and social investment programmes. They cited projects such as rail expansion, road rehabilitation, gas pipeline construction, and education financing schemes as initiatives already transforming lives or nearing completion.

In the transport sector, officials noted that railway modernisation is easing pressure on highways by shifting freight movement from roads to rail, while new corridors and logistics hubs are being developed to improve efficiency.

In the health sector, representatives highlighted reforms aimed at improving access to healthcare services, strengthening local pharmaceutical production, and attracting investment into the health value chain.

Overall, the Presidency maintained that the project tour is intended to enhance transparency, improve public engagement, and ensure that Nigerians can directly see and assess the impact of government programmes across the country.
