According to Ireporter Online, Akpabio made the remarks while speaking to guests in Uyo during a reception organised in honour of Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.

The Senate President said he becomes confident that a law is appropriate whenever opposition parties publicly express dissatisfaction with it. He further predicted that opposition political groups would remain in a state of confusion until after the 2027 general elections.

Akpabio argued that the early commencement of political activities by opposition parties, ahead of the timeline fixed by the Independent National Electoral Commission for August 2026, reflects internal disorganisation within their ranks.

He explained that while the ruling party continues nationwide consultations and political mobilisation, many opposition figures are still struggling to consolidate their structures.

According to him, several of the groups are yet to fully establish or register their political platforms, a situation he said could prolong their challenges as the election period approaches.

The Senate President also criticised what he described as persistent divisions within opposition parties, pointing to ongoing leadership disputes and internal disagreements that have weakened their cohesion.

He noted that parties which previously commanded significant voter support are now grappling with internal crises, including multiple leadership claims across different regions of the country.

Akpabio further cited the internal struggles within the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party, saying leadership disagreements and structural disputes have complicated their operations and raised questions about who holds legitimate authority to act on behalf of the parties.
