‘I Read 18 Hours Daily’ – LASU Graduate With 5.0 CGPA Shares Success Tips

Aminat Yusuf, the top-performing student of Lagos State University (LASU) for the 2021/2022 academic session, has shared her strategies for excelling in school.

In June, Yusuf achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the first LASU undergraduate in 40 years to attain a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 5.0.

In an interview with BBC Pidgin, the law graduate explained that her success was not solely based on mere words but on a genuine passion for her studies. She emphasized the significance of being committed to one’s academic pursuits, especially during challenging moments.

Yusuf revealed that she maintained a rigorous study routine, dedicating 18 hours a day to reading while in school. To manage her study time efficiently, she divided the subjects she needed to cover each day into three categories and spent six hours on each.

She advised students aspiring for academic excellence to avoid procrastination and not wait until exams draw near to begin studying. Seeking help from senior colleagues or lecturers when faced with difficulties in understanding the course material was another valuable tip she offered.

During the 26th convocation and 40th anniversary of the institution, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State rewarded her outstanding achievement with a generous sum of N10 million.
