Ibadan Biker Set to Break Guinness Record Across 12 African Nations
The Oyo State Government has thrown its weight behind Ibadan-born motorcyclist, Ebaide Joy, as she sets out to break a Guinness World Record by embarking on a solo motorbike tour through 12 African countries.
Toyin Balogun, the state’s Commissioner for Women’s Affairs, announced on Monday that the journey, set for July 2025, is not only aimed at surpassing the current record for the longest solo female bike ride (30,000 km), but also intends to transform the lives of 18 orphaned girls in Nigeria.
The ambitious initiative has already received official approval from the Guinness World Records and enjoys full support from the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. Balogun praised Ebaide as a courageous trailblazer and philanthropist whose mission aligns with the ministry’s objectives of empowerment and poverty alleviation.
Ebaide, who grew up in an orphanage, plans to use her journey as a platform to train and empower girls with similar backgrounds. The selected girls will undergo three months of vocational training in tailoring, catering, and hairdressing, followed by a graduation ceremony upon her return.
Governor Seyi Makinde has also pledged support, with the ministry promising to provide startup capital and equipment for the girls after their training, ensuring they can build sustainable livelihoods.
Ebaide, known for filming her rides with an on-bike camera, views her journey not just as a personal challenge, but a mission to break cycles of poverty and inspire African women globally.
“This isn’t just about breaking a world record,” she said. “It’s about giving hope, creating impact, and proving that anyone can rise above their circumstances.”
