IBB’s Son Shuts Down ‘Rejection’ Reports: ‘I Respect President Tinubu’
Mohammed Babangida, the eldest son of Nigeria’s former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), has debunked reports claiming he rejected an appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BoA) recently offered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to IREPORTER ONLINE, speculation had spread across social media and some blogs on Monday suggesting that Babangida turned down the role due to undisclosed personal reasons, however, the family swiftly dismissed the rumour as baseless.
Speaking through the family’s media representative, Alhaji Mahmoud Abdullahi, Mohammed Babangida emphatically denied the claim. “There is absolutely no truth in the reports that he rejected the appointment. It is the handiwork of mischief makers,” Abdullahi said.
According to IREPORTER ONLINE, Abdullahi—who formerly served as Chief Press Secretary to the late Governor Abdulkadir Kure—reiterated that Babangida remains grateful for the honour bestowed upon him by the president and has not issued any letter declining the role.
“You can quote me directly,” Abdullahi added. “Mohammed Babangida did not reject the president’s appointment as BoA Chairman. Everything you’re hearing to the contrary is mere fabrication.”
Interestingly, a circulating letter dated July 21, 2025, and attributed to Babangida, claimed he declined the offer due to “personal and professional considerations.” The letter thanked President Tinubu for the honour but stated he would be unable to serve with the full dedication the role demands.
However, according to IREPORTER ONLINE, no official confirmation has linked Babangida to the said letter, and the family insists no such communication was issued by him.
As the controversy simmers, political observers await clarity, but for now, the Babangida family maintains that Mohammed remains committed to supporting national development—and has not rejected the president’s offer.
