According to Ireporter Online, Duro Ikujenyo, a former band member of late Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, has shared personal memories from his early journey into music and the resistance he faced from his family.

Ikujenyo revealed that before fully embracing a musical career, he was employed at the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, but later chose to resign after discovering a deeper passion for music. He explained that the decision was not well received by his parents, who were strongly opposed to him leaving a stable government job for an uncertain path in entertainment. According to him, the situation escalated to the point where he was asked to leave the family home after they learned of his resignation plans.

He further recounted that his relocation to Ikoyi became necessary after the family disagreement over his career choice. In a more striking revelation, Ikujenyo disclosed that his parents once took him to a psychiatric hospital, believing his decision to pursue music and his personal convictions were signs of mental instability. However, he stated that medical assessments later confirmed he was mentally sound, and his choices were driven purely by personal conviction and passion for music.
