Imasuen Slams Labour Party Leadership Crisis

In an interview with AIT on Friday, Imasuen defended lawmakers who defected from the party, stating that the internal discord had severely weakened the party’s structure, leaving them with little choice.

He noted, “All political parties face challenges, but the situation in Labour Party, my party, is particularly dire. Rather than addressing the issues, some leaders are exacerbating the divide, which is unfortunate. I align myself with the Nenadi Usman faction, as they are focused on resolving the party’s issues.”

Imasuen highlighted the failure of a stakeholders’ convention held in Abia State under Governor Alex Otti, intended to unify the party. Instead, divisions persisted, resulting in the party’s poor performance, including losing local government elections in Abia to the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

“Unity is essential for any political party. However, when leaders refuse to cooperate or attend meetings aimed at resolution, the party’s structure collapses. We saw this happen in Abia, where ZLP capitalized on our internal strife to claim victory,” he lamented.

The first-time Senator emphasized the need for collective efforts to rebuild the Labour Party, warning that ongoing disputes would continue to erode its credibility and electoral prospects.
