According to Ireporter Online, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday formally presented certificates of return to the winners of the February 21, 2026, Area Council Elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The presentation was conducted by the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mallam Aminu Idris. Recipients included the re-elected Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, and his Deputy, Mohammed Nadabo.
Idris congratulated all the winners, describing the certificate presentation as the official conclusion of a successful and transparent electoral process. He confirmed that certificates were presented to all six area council chairmen and their deputies, as well as the 62 councillors who emerged victorious across the FCT.
The REC urged the elected officials to approach their roles with a strong sense of duty, emphasizing that their mandates reflect the trust and confidence the citizens have placed in them.
“Your election is a testament to the trust imposed on you by the people. I encourage you to embrace your mandate with dedication, working tirelessly to address the needs of your constituents,” Idris said.
He also expressed appreciation to all stakeholders, including the Nigeria Police Force and political parties, for their contributions to ensuring a free and fair election.
