Chukwueze, who had been a standout performer in the first half, was forced off the pitch just two minutes into the second half after sustaining an injury. Fonseca reflected on the significant impact this had on Milan’s strategy, saying, “In the first half, we created numerous scoring chances, and the players put in a great effort. However, once Chukwueze went off, we found ourselves taking more risks than we had planned. We certainly deserved to win but missed too many opportunities.”

The disappointing 1-1 draw against Roma marked AC Milan’s sixth draw of the season, leaving them in seventh place—eight points adrift of Lazio in the race for Champions League qualification. The club’s struggles continue, with their local rivals, Inter Milan, now 12 points ahead in the Serie A title race.

In a separate development, AC Milan announced the dismissal of coach Paulo Fonseca on Monday, December 30, after a lackluster six-month tenure that failed to deliver the results expected.

Meanwhile, in the Premier League, former Barcelona striker Gary Lineker has tipped Liverpool to clinch the 2024-2025 title. Under the leadership of new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool have been in outstanding form, securing 14 wins from 18 matches, and hold an impressive eight-point lead over second-place Nottingham Forest as they approach the New Year.

Lineker, speaking on The Rest is Football podcast after Liverpool’s dominant 5-0 victory over West Ham, said, “Liverpool were exceptional again. They’ve built a strong lead, and I can’t see anyone catching them at this point. They look unstoppable.”
