Iran Tells UK: Allowing US Use Of Your Bases Means Joining The Aggression
Iran has issued a stern warning to the United Kingdom over its decision to permit the United States to access British military bases, declaring that such a move would be regarded by Tehran as direct involvement in ongoing hostilities. According to Ireporter Online, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, conveyed the position during a conversation with his British counterpart, criticising London’s stance as “negative and biased” in relation to the joint US-Israeli military actions against Iran. He stressed that granting Washington access to British facilities would “certainly be considered participation in aggression.”
In response, officials from the office of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer maintained that the arrangement with the United States was strictly for a limited and defensive purpose, particularly in reaction to Iranian strikes across the Middle East. A spokesperson emphasised that Britain was not involved in the initial attacks and had no intention of becoming entangled in a broader conflict.
Further reports indicate that Starmer had initially declined a request from Washington to utilise British bases for offensive operations, reportedly citing concerns over the legality of such strikes. However, the UK later approved limited access after Iranian forces targeted British military assets in the region, prompting a defensive response.
At the time, the prime minister clarified that the approval was confined to preventing missile threats, noting that the United States sought permission specifically to counter potential Iranian missile launches from storage sites or launch facilities.
The latest warning from Tehran has heightened diplomatic tensions between both nations, as the confrontation involving Iran, the United States, and Israel continues to intensify into its fourth week.
