Uromi Tragedy: Abba Kabir Yusuf & Monday Okpebholo Move To Compensate Families Of 16 Slain Hunters

Governors of Kano and Edo States, Abba Kabir Yusuf and Monday Okpebholo, have finalized arrangements to compensate the families of 16 hunters who were killed in Uromi. According to Ireporter Online, this was disclosed on Friday by the Kano State Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, during the presentation of food items and cash donations on behalf of Governor Yusuf to affected families in Bunkure Local Government Area.

Waiya revealed that a dedicated account named “Uromi-16” has been established to facilitate the disbursement process, noting that all necessary arrangements for payment have now been completed. He explained that earlier delays were linked to the failure of the former chairman of the Uromi Committee and Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam, to carry out required procedures.

Providing further details, Waiya stated that each of the 16 deceased victims has been allocated ₦300,000, while 12 injured individuals are to receive ₦200,000 each, alongside food support provided by the state government. He emphasized that Governor Yusuf had issued directives for compensation as far back as the previous year, but implementation was stalled due to administrative lapses.

In his remarks, the District Head of Bunkure, Aminu Isha Umar, expressed gratitude for the intervention, voicing confidence in the Kano State Government’s efforts to secure the compensation from Edo State authorities. He also commended Governor Yusuf for his continued support toward residents, particularly those in Bunkure Local Government Area.
