IWD Spotlight: Caroline Danjuma Denounces Stigma Against Divorced Women

According to Ireporter Online, actress Caroline Hutchins Danjuma has criticised societal attitudes toward divorced women, highlighting the unfair stigma often directed at them for the breakdown of their marriages. Speaking in a message to mark International Women’s Day, Danjuma shared that she was once advised to conceal the fact that she has children to avoid discouraging potential partners. She rejected the advice, choosing instead to embrace her role as a mother of three.

Danjuma emphasized that motherhood has been a defining force in her life, instilling values such as love, resilience, forgiveness, strength, and grace. She described her children, aged 18, 17, and 11, as her greatest legacy and expressed gratitude to their father for his involvement in raising them.

Reflecting on societal pressures, Danjuma said, “The world often makes divorced women feel like they are the problem… like they should carry the weight of it all. Constantly stigmatised unnecessarily.” She added that she would never hide her children and celebrated the joy and fulfillment motherhood has brought her.

On International Women’s Day, Danjuma acknowledged the profound impact of motherhood on her personal growth and encouraged women to embrace their achievements and identities. “Motherhood is not my limitation; it is my greatest legacy,” she stated.
