JUST IN: NCC Confirms Telcos Begin Compensation Payments Over Poor Service Today
According to Ireporter Online, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has assured telecom subscribers that implementation of compensation for poor quality of service will begin immediately, with affected customers set to receive airtime credits either today or tomorrow.
The Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, disclosed this while speaking with journalists at a media roundtable held at the Marriott Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos. He explained that the directive requiring mobile network operators to compensate subscribers is now being enforced, and implementation has commenced.
Dr. Maida further noted that the Commission is actively engaging with its counterpart regulatory body, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), to address ongoing concerns surrounding the suspension of credit-based airtime and data services. He assured that efforts are underway to ensure the seamless restoration and continuity of these services for subscribers nationwide.
He clarified that while telecom operators are licensed by the NCC, entities providing credit services are the ones required to obtain the necessary approvals from the FCCPC, adding that this distinction is central to resolving the regulatory issues affecting the sector.
The NCC reiterated its commitment to protecting consumers and improving service delivery across the telecommunications industry, stressing that coordination with relevant agencies will help resolve outstanding challenges in the sector.
