The United States Government has returned $954,000 stolen by former Bayelsa State Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha to the state government via the Federal Government.
The US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, announced the news during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday afternoon.

She stated that the former governor’s official salary from 1999 until his impeachment in 2005 did not match the stated amount.
“However, during that time, he accumulated millions of dollars through abuse of office, money laundering,” she said.
Alamieyeseigha, 62, passed away in October 2015.
President Muhammadu Buhari has immediately directed that the funds be used to improve Bayelsa’s healthcare system.
