Just In: Yobe State Allocates 5%-Budget To Address IDP-Challenges, Launches Comprehensive-Policy (View Details)
Yobe State Government has committed five per cent of its budget to address the challenges faced by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and their host communities. This initiative, launched in Abuja, emphasizes humanity, neutrality, and independence while focusing on protecting the rights of vulnerable groups such as women and children.
Governor Mai Mala Buni highlighted the policy’s strategic objectives, aimed at providing protection, ensuring access to essential services, and promoting sustainable solutions for displaced persons in the state. He underscored the impact of Boko Haram insurgency and natural disasters on infrastructure, healthcare, education, and livelihoods in the region, necessitating a coordinated response.
The policy, developed through extensive consultations with stakeholders including UN agencies, the World Bank, and local communities, aims to restore stability and rebuild lives towards durable solutions for IDPs. Governor Buni assured transparency and accountability in the policy’s implementation, stressing the collective effort required from government agencies, civil society, the private sector, and international partners.
International development partners, including the World Bank and the North East Ambassador, commended Yobe State for its inclusive approach and commitment to the voluntary and informed relocation of IDPs. They pledged continued support in mobilizing resources and expertise to effectively implement the policy, aligning with national and international standards on internal displacement.
Secretary to the State Government, Baba Mallam Wali, affirmed the state government’s commitment beyond statutory allocations, demonstrating ownership and dedication to addressing IDP issues comprehensively. He emphasized legislative and international support for the policy, highlighting its pivotal role in enhancing livelihoods and promoting peace and stability in Yobe State and beyond.
