Just In: Zenith Bank Refutes Claims Of EFCC Arrest Of Managing Director, Betta Edu
Zenith Bank Plc has refuted claims suggesting that its Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Ebenezer Onyeagwu, was apprehended by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with the ongoing investigation of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
Reports indicated that the CEOs of Zenith, Providus, and Jaiz Banks were questioned by the EFCC, linked to financial misappropriation and fraud connected to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, her predecessor, Sadiya Umar-Farouk, and Halima Shehu.
However, the bank’s Secretary/General Counsel, Michael Otu, dismissed the reports of Onyeagwu’s arrest as inaccurate in a statement filed with the Nigerian Exchange Limited on Wednesday.
Otu clarified, stating, “We wish to clarify that these reports are entirely false. The Group Managing Director was not arrested or detained by the EFCC or any other anti-graft agency and is currently fulfilling his duties at the bank.”
In a related development, former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Femi Pedro, has appealed to Nigerians to pardon the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, and afford her a second chance.
Pedro, sharing his first encounter with Edu, commended her as a focused and determined woman, expressing sympathy over her present predicament.
He emphasized being drawn to her style, carriage, and comportment during their meeting. Describing Edu as his daughter, Pedro urged understanding and forgiveness.
