King Charles Accused Of Genocide In Fiery Parliament Clash – Indigenous Senator Demands Justice
The Independent Senator and Indigenous activist, Lidia Thorpe, publicly accused King Charles of committing genocide during his visit to Australia’s Parliament House on Monday.….CONTINUE READING
This unexpected confrontation came during the British monarch’s official tour, marking his 16th visit to the country and his first major appearance since being diagnosed with cancer.
Thorpe interrupted King Charles moments after he acknowledged the “traditional owners of the lands” in his speech. According to the BBC, she boldly declared, “You committed genocide against our people. Return what you stole—our bones, our skulls, our babies, our land. You destroyed our land. We want a treaty.”
The outspoken senator further added, “This is not your land; you are not my King,” as she tried to approach King Charles before being stopped by security and removed from the chamber.
Despite the incident, King Charles remained composed, continuing his conversation with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on the podium. The protest stood in stark contrast to the warm reception the King and Queen Camilla received from both officials and the public during their visit.
Prime Minister Albanese used the opportunity to commend King Charles for his longstanding advocacy on climate change, emphasizing the enduring ties between Australia and the British monarchy. The royal couple’s visit also included a stop at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, where they were greeted by over a thousand supporters. Their tour is set to continue in Sydney before heading to Samoa for a Commonwealth meeting later in the week.
