King Charles Hails Nigerians As ‘Quiet Heroes’ Driving UK Growth

King Charles III has commended the contributions of Nigerians to British society, describing them as pivotal to the United Kingdom’s growth and innovation. The monarch made the remarks during a royal banquet at Windsor Castle, organized in honor of President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday.

According to Ireporter Online, the King highlighted his interactions with the Nigerian community, noting the presence of many “quiet heroes” making significant impacts in schools, businesses, the National Health Service, and universities. He emphasized that Nigerians were excelling “at the highest level of business, technology, academia, law, science, sports, literature, and the arts.”

“We in the United Kingdom are fortunate that so many people of Nigerian heritage, having chosen Britain as their home, are now at the heart of British life,” King Charles said. He added that countless young people have benefited from the work of his King’s Trust over the past 50 years.

The King also shared a lighter moment from a recent reception at St. James’s Palace, where he hosted members of the Nigerian diaspora. He recounted a lively jollof and tea party, joking about the friendly culinary rivalry with Ghana and Senegal.

Reflecting on his first visit to Nigeria 36 years ago, King Charles said he could not have imagined the profound influence Nigerians would have in the UK. From Afrobeats concerts and Nollywood films to stars in the Premier League and prominent roles in the judiciary, he said Britain’s culture has been deeply enriched by Nigerians.

He concluded the banquet by proposing a toast to President Tinubu and the people of Nigeria, saying, “Naija no dey carry last.”
