Anthony Joshua Back In Camp After Crash, Summer Comeback Set
According to Ireporter Online, former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has resumed full training as he prepares for a return to the ring this summer, months after surviving a tragic road accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two of his close associates.
Joshua, 34, has not fought since his sixth-round stoppage of Jake Paul in Miami on December 19. His career was thrown into uncertainty days later following a devastating crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that resulted in the deaths of his personal trainer Kevin Ayodele and recovery therapist Sina Ghami.
Although Joshua survived the accident, he spent the ensuing months focusing on physical recovery while mourning the loss of his friends. He initially returned to training at Finchley Amateur Boxing Club, the venue where his boxing journey began, before reuniting with coach Iegor Golub, a pivotal figure in the corner of former undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk. Golub had previously guided Joshua during his stoppage victory over Paul and returned after Joshua parted ways with Ben Davison following his September 2024 defeat to Daniel Dubois.
Promoter Eddie Hearn described Joshua’s progress as promising. “We are very close to returning to training camp, and I feel like AJ is physically and perhaps mentally ready to throw himself back into that environment,” Hearn said. “It is exciting. For everything that he has been through and all the pain, I do not think that will leave. But he has a career and a job to do, which he wants to continue doing. And I am excited to see him back.”
A comeback fight is now scheduled for July after a March bout in Saudi Arabia was postponed following the accident. Speculation is already building over a potential blockbuster clash with Tyson Fury later in the year, with reports suggesting that preliminary agreements are in place. Fury is slated to return on April 11 against Arslanbek Makhmudov as the heavyweight division prepares for a pivotal second half of the year.
