The land in question, originally allocated to WAECO Nigeria Limited under Governor Kwankwaso’s administration, was revoked in 2017 during Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s tenure. Investigations by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission revealed that WAECO, linked to the Kwankwaso brothers, was not a legally recognized entity at the time of the allocation. This led to the recommendation for the land’s revocation.

After the revocation, part of the land was reassigned to Mallam Kato Square, while the remaining portion was returned to its original owners. However, Governor Yusuf has reportedly resisted returning the land to WAECO, prompting Garba Kwankwaso to file a suit seeking to prevent any further action on the disputed property.

The legal application, supported by an affidavit, seeks to stop any development or changes to the land until the case is resolved. The court has scheduled the next hearing for November 27.
