Labour Congress Calls For Justice As NLC President’s Attack Goes Unpunished
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has voiced its disappointment that a year has passed since their president, Comrade Joe Ajaero, was assaulted in Owerri, Imo State, yet no one has been held accountable for the brutal incident…..CONTINUE READING
Despite this traumatic experience, Ajaero remains dedicated to advocating for Nigerian workers. According to Benson Upah, NLC’s Head of Information and Public Affairs, Ajaero was kidnapped, beaten, and left for dead by state agents merely for leading a peaceful demonstration demanding the payment of salaries and pensions.
The severity of the attack is underscored by the fact that Ajaero required over six months of medical treatment, both domestically and abroad, to recover his vision and bodily functions.
Moreover, harassment continues, with police summoning Ajaero to answer charges related to terrorism financing, subversion, and treasonable felony.
The NLC finds it troubling that no one has been brought to justice for Ajaero’s suffering, especially in light of the National Security Adviser’s earlier assurances. The organization remains committed to ensuring Ajaero receives justice while continuing to serve the interests of Nigerian workers.
