Labour Party Offers Free Nomination Forms To Nasarawa Aspirants

Speaking with journalists on Friday, the state chairman of the party, Alexander Umbugu, explained that the decision was aimed at reducing the financial burden on individuals genuinely interested in public service.

He stated that the Labour Party remains a platform for Nigerians from all economic backgrounds, stressing that the party’s symbol reflects inclusiveness and equality among citizens regardless of their financial standing.

According to political reports, Umbugu noted that the party had adopted a similar approach during the 2023 elections, where several candidates reportedly secured victory under the party’s platform without paying for forms.

He disclosed that the party had already made available forms for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly aspirants, urging interested persons across the state to take advantage of the opportunity and contest under the Labour Party platform.

Umbugu also criticised the high cost of nomination forms charged by some political parties, noting that governorship and legislative aspirants are often made to pay millions of naira before participating in elections.

He argued that excessive spending during elections often pushes elected officials to focus on recovering their investments rather than delivering good governance and democratic dividends to the people.

The Labour Party chairman further addressed the ongoing leadership dispute within the party, expressing confidence that the Supreme Court would eventually affirm Julius Abure as the authentic national chairman despite recent court decisions favouring another faction.

He maintained that his state executive emerged through a properly conducted congress held in December 2025 and reaffirmed his position as the recognised chairman of the party in Nasarawa State.

Umbugu added that the party would soon conduct primary elections for all available positions, beginning with the bye-election for the Nasarawa North Senatorial District seat left vacant following the death of Godiya Akwashiki.
