Maduka Okoye Shines On Return As Udinese Snatch Draw Against Como

According to reports, Maduka Okoye marked a confident return from injury as Udinese secured a 0-0 draw against Como in Monday’s Serie A fixture at the Bluenergy Stadium.

The Super Eagles goalkeeper, sidelined with a thigh injury, produced a composed performance to help Udinese earn a crucial clean sheet, keeping them comfortably in mid-table. Okoye had impressed during the March international break before injury forced him out of Nigeria’s friendly against Jordan.

Concerns over his fitness were quickly dispelled as Okoye immediately slotted into the starting lineup and made several decisive interventions. Early in the match, he blocked a powerful low shot from Maximo Perrone in the 10th minute, intercepted a threatening pass from Lucas Da Cunha, and comfortably dealt with attempts from Nico Paz, while a header from Sergi Roberto narrowly went over the bar.

Udinese often faced pressure, but Okoye’s control of his area and effective communication with the defence were key in repelling attacks from Mergim Vojvoda and Anastasios Douvikas. The result extended Udinese’s unbeaten league run to five matches while ending Como’s five-game winning streak.

After the match, Okoye praised both the point earned and the team’s disciplined approach. “I’m happy with the clean sheet, but especially with the point. They were strong; it wasn’t easy, but we worked hard during the week and were ready,” he said. “We always watch the game unfold to determine whether to build from the back or launch the ball. We didn’t want to take any risks in the final stages, so we played long.”

The result leaves Udinese in 11th place on 40 points in the Serie A standings.
