Major Political Fallout: SSG’s Stunning Break From Anti-Kwankwaso Campaign Leaves Kano In Shock

After a private meeting with Governor Yusuf and leaders of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Bichi clarified his lack of involvement with the group behind the campaign. “Governor Yusuf is my boss, and I have submitted myself and all my activities to him. I will abide by whatever he wants,” Bichi stated.

For several months, a faction within the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the Kwankwasiyya movement has been using social media and radio platforms to urge Governor Yusuf to “stand on his feet” (Abba Tsaya da Kafarka) and assert his authority. This faction claims that Kwankwaso has exerted excessive influence over Governor Yusuf, controlling significant decisions regarding projects and appointments.

Comrade Nura Gambo Rimingata, a member of the faction, argued that Kwankwaso’s influence threatens the democratic process. “Governor Yusuf should be allowed to manage the state’s affairs without interference, as he is the one elected by the people,” Rimingata insisted. He further alleged that Kwankwaso and his close allies have already laid the groundwork for a new political structure, selecting potential candidates for the governorship, deputy governorship, and even the SSG position for the 2027 elections.

However, these allegations were quickly dismissed by a key aide to Governor Yusuf, Alhajiji Nagoda, who accused the faction of attempting to create division within the NNPP. He defended Kwankwaso’s involvement, stating, “We cannot suffer for eight years to gain power, only to have some detractors mobilize people to turn Governor Yusuf against our leader, Kwankwaso.”

The tensions have also attracted commentary from political analysts. Professor Kamilu Sani Fagge, a prominent political analyst from Bayero University, Kano, highlighted the lack of internal democracy and ideological coherence within political parties as a fundamental cause of such conflicts. “Political parties are not founded on any ideology and lack internal democracy. They are merely a collection of individuals with differing views joining forces to take over government,” Professor Fagge noted. He added that the commercialization of politics has intensified these internal divisions, as political positions are often viewed as opportunities for personal financial gain.

In a related development, the NNPP has officially announced the suspension of Abdullahi Baffa Bichi and the Commissioner of Transportation, Muhammad Diggol. The State Party Chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, confirmed this suspension during an interview with Daily Trust late Monday. This announcement follows the circulation of an audio clip in which Dungurawa disclosed the decision, which has since gone viral.

Dungurawa stated that the suspension was due to allegations of disloyalty, abuse of power, and for causing chaos within the party. He expressed that Bichi and Diggol’s actions were harmful to the party’s cohesion and effectiveness, warranting their suspension.
