Mokwa Flood: IBB Receives Niger State Delegation, Calls for Calm and Faith
Former Nigerian military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd), has described the recent flooding in Mokwa, Niger State, as a tragic but divinely ordained event.
Speaking at his Minna residence on Friday while receiving a Sallah homage from a delegation led by the Niger State Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, Babangida expressed sympathy for the victims of the disaster, which claimed over 200 lives and caused widespread property damage.
“What happened in Mokwa is unfortunate, but it is ordained by Allah. It is beyond our control,” the former leader said. He urged Nigerians, especially during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, to offer prayers for the repose of the deceased and for strength and protection for those affected.
The Deputy Governor explained that the visit was aimed at seeking Babangida’s blessings and guidance. He noted that Governor Umar Bago’s administration is working to provide relief and restore hope to the affected communities.
“We know the General is deeply concerned by the tragedy in Mokwa,” Garba said. “We need the support of prayers from everyone, and we value your enduring role as a father figure in Niger State and the nation.”
The flood incident has drawn national attention, with both state and federal governments initiating relief and recovery measures.
