The distressing event unfolded at their residence in Ibrahimpatnam, Dandumailaram village, on Monday.

According to authorities, the woman, identified as Mote Jangamma, purportedly assaulted her daughter before using a saree to strangle her.

Initially attempting to stage the incident as suicide, evidence of injuries on the girl’s throat pointed towards homicide.

Bhargavi, a student at a private college in Dilsukhnagar, Rachakonda police confirmed, fell victim to this appalling act.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Maheshwaram, Sunitha Reddy, informed TOI that a murder case has been filed, with investigations underway to ascertain all aspects, including the motive behind the crime.

On the fateful day, Bhargavi’s father left for work in the morning, while Jangamma and her 17-year-old son headed to their field in the village, leaving Bhargavi alone at home.

Upon Jangamma’s return around 1 pm, discovering Bhargavi with her boyfriend led to a burst of fury, resulting in verbal abuse from the mother.

The boyfriend, upon sighting Jangamma, fled the scene and alerted Bhargavi’s brother, who rushed home only to find the doors locked from within.

Peering through a window, he allegedly witnessed his mother attempting to strangle Bhargavi with a scarf.

Following loud knocks on the door, Jangamma emerged, claiming that Bhargavi had fallen with a saree around her neck, but the truth unraveled swiftly.

Relatives rushed to the scene, accompanied by a local doctor, who pronounced Bhargavi deceased.

Upon the boy’s complaint later that day, Ibrahimpatnam police initiated a murder investigation.

Reports suggest that Jangamma had been pressuring Bhargavi to marry a close relative, but Bhargavi insisted on marrying her boyfriend, causing prolonged familial discord.

Jangamma has been detained for questioning, while Bhargavi’s father refuted allegations of opposition to her relationship, expressing disbelief and grief over the tragic turn of events.
