and House Committees on Defence at the National Assembly in Abuja, Matawalle highlighted the limitations of the current defence budget.

According to a statement by Ministry spokesperson Daberechi Asonye, the Minister emphasized the importance of collaboration with lawmakers, praising the commitment of the House and Senate Committees on Defence. Matawalle noted that their support has been crucial to the Ministry’s achievements so far.

He pointed out the inadequacy of the existing budget, stating:

“With the right equipment, we can significantly resolve the battle against banditry.”

In 2024, the Ministry could only procure a limited number of Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), leaving many regions underserved. Matawalle appealed for an increased allocation in 2025 to ensure essential equipment reaches areas under fresh attacks, enabling swift and decisive actions.
