National Shock: Security Agencies Uncover Syndicate Behind Massive JAMB Result Breach

Twenty individuals have been apprehended for allegedly hacking into the 2025 Computer-Based Test (CBT) examinations conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Reports indicate that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Police Force carried out the arrests. The suspects are believed to be part of a larger syndicate comprising over 100 members, who specialize in breaching the computer systems of major examination bodies, including JAMB and the National Examinations Council (NECO).

According to a report by AIT, security sources revealed that the suspects have admitted to deliberately compromising the CBT system with the intent to undermine JAMB’s credibility and dissuade candidates from using the system in future exams conducted by NECO and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

The source disclosed that the hackers charged between ₦700,000 and ₦2 million to help “special candidates” achieve high scores.

Preliminary investigations also uncovered that several members of the syndicate own private schools and operate so-called “special centres,” generating substantial revenue from exam fraud.

Explaining their method, the source said:

“The group would install a malicious software on the examination body’s hardware, which would then remotely infiltrate JAMB servers at specific CBT centres. Routers mounted around these centres would override JAMB’s system, enabling the delivery of answers to candidates who had paid for the service.”

The breach caused a distortion between the questions and the answers recorded by candidates, contributing to widespread failure in the examination.
