Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have recorded another major success in the fight against illegal drug trafficking after intercepting more than 1.5 million pills of Tramadol concealed in two trucks entering Nigeria through the Benin Republic border.

According to Ireporter Online, the seizure was carried out following intelligence-led operations that uncovered the hidden consignments transported through the same route from Togo, via the Benin Republic, into Nigeria.

The NDLEA disclosed that the latest interception came days after its officers in Lagos seized a truck containing 558,900 pills of Tramadol 250mg concealed inside a specially designed false compartment reinforced with thick iron sheets.

Following the earlier discovery, operatives intensified surveillance along the route and successfully intercepted two additional trucks carrying a significantly larger quantity of the controlled substance.

The agency stated that the consignments were concealed using similar methods and were believed to be part of efforts by drug trafficking networks to distribute illegal substances across the country.

According to NDLEA officials, the seizure prevented a large supply of Tramadol from reaching criminal groups and other illegal networks, describing the operation as a significant achievement in protecting public health and national security.

The agency noted that as traffickers face increased restrictions through major entry points, some syndicates have shifted attention to land borders, but intelligence-driven operations are helping security agencies disrupt their activities.

The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and reducing the availability of illicit substances that pose risks to Nigerian youths and society at large.
